After weeks of planning and reconoitering the terrain, The Presidents Day Society is happy to present the 2009 schedule of events and toasts.
The most notable change in this year’s schedule as it compares to previous years is the formal addition of the Colorado State Capitol. In our inaugural year of 2007, we stopped at the capitol on a whim to capture a quick photo. In subsequent years it has become a favorite stop of the group for more photos, to bump into our legislators, and further our goal of reminding the public of the day’s importance. This year, we will actually be allowed inside the capitol and be given a tour.

A welcome message from our nation’s first president to prospective new Society members.
Consistent with Society goals, invitations to prospective Society members were mailed earlier this week. A hearty “welcome” to our new members.
There are several new and exciting aspects to our Presidents Day 2009 festivities. One of these is a planned visit to the Colorado State Capitol. While it’s still up in the air, we can’t imagine a group of politicians not recognizing the significance of this holiday or a group of patriots such as ourselves.

The presidential inauguration is an event that’s about as close to a royal coronation as American government gets. It’s a day filled with ceremony, guards, salutes, parades, speeches, a party that’s actually still called a “ball” and, of course, symbolism: of new beginnings, rites of passage, of change. It’s the president’s opportunity to declare his administration’s intent: At John F. Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961, he made his legendary “Ask not what not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country” speech.
